Neither provider is always cheaper. Compare named plans for the same address, contract length and monthly usage. A low price at 1,000 kWh can depend on a credit that does not apply in a 500-kWh month.

Check fees and restrictions before enrolling
- Match the exact plan name, utility territory and term on the EFL.
- Read recurring charges, bill-credit thresholds and the cancellation-fee calculation in the Terms of Service. A single fee number may not describe every circumstance.
- Confirm whether the offer is limited to new customers or a particular enrollment channel. Follow the listed conditions; do not expect another sales channel to honor the same price.
- Keep a copy of the quote, EFL, terms and start-date confirmation.
Compare support without treating advertising as a rating
Check the contact channels, billing tools and payment arrangements you would actually use. Provider marketing and customer-review scores are different types of evidence; neither proves one plan will cost less for your home.

Common TXU and Reliant questions
Does changing provider change who fixes a power outage?
Your delivery utility remains tied to your address. Switching the retail provider does not change that utility. Use the official Texas outage resources for reporting.
Should I pick the lowest 1,000-kWh price?
Only after checking what the plan costs in your lower- and higher-usage months. Read how minimum-usage fees and bill credits differ.
Can I use these rates for a renewal?
Not necessarily. These are advertised listings, and some are new-customer-only. Compare your actual renewal offer using the renewal-versus-switching worksheet and check your switching timeline.
